Other games can have a smaller world and feel just as "big" because they can put stuff closer together for you to do, or stack stuff vertically, since you'll be experiencing it at a slower pace. Obviously that's not to devalue those games' worlds or settings-Athia has less to do, but it also doesn't feel that empty due to how fast you can traverse it ( Check that out here!). Comparing the playable area to other game worlds, it's 2.5x the size of Skyrim, 1.5x the size of Breath of the Wild, and 1.3x the size of Red Dead Redemption 2. Moreover, it easily competes with numerous open-world action games. This puts Athia at about 1.1 to 1.2 times the size of Manhattan, or about the size of Baker Island, Alaska if you wanted to see an island of the same size. As for the size, the Hogwarts Legacy map is 2.95 Square Miles or 7.65 km. 96.74 square kilometers, or 37.35 square miles This does not count the areas on the map that I cannot place a marker on, such as the "beach" to the south of Avaolet. 105.98 square kilometers, or 40.92 square miles.
I only did a very general "width x height" calculation, plus removing a few shapes around the edges, plus taking out the unplayable regions inside the map to find the actual "playable" area.
I used the custom waypoint feature to do a very basic set of measurements of Athia's landmass. DISCLAIMER: This is just a measurement of space for fun, not to try and claim Forspoken is better or worse than any other game due to the size of the map.
